“Hello World! My blog, The Daily Malady, is a general forum for satirical writing on anything from current affairs to music/movies or dark forages into my psyche disguised as hypothetical stories. I like to mix it up though; keep you on your toes as it were. I particularly like the styles of great comedians like Chris Morris and Peter Cook but am not a huge fan of unfunny comedians - call me old-fashioned.
I am only just starting out and would very much appreciate comments/damning critiques of any of my posts. I will also reciprocate of course, in spades - actual spades.”

The Daily Rant

The Daily Rant:
New in the group

“My blog is really just an eclectic mixture of thoughts and opinions on anything and everything, which I try to update on a fairly frequent basis. It’s got views on politics, culture, travel, news, and anything else that might make for an interesting discussion. I like discussion and welcome comments and criticisms alike.”

ActionAid events in Leeds

ActionAid is a unique partnership of people who are fighting for a world without poverty, in which every person can exercise their right to a life of dignity. ActionAid works with poor and marginalised people to help eradicate poverty by overcoming the injustice and inequity that cause it.

The city of Leeds has more ActionAid child sponsors per head than anywhere else in the UK. They are holding two special events this month to say thank you, and everyone is welcome to come along.

I emailed members in February regarding major changes made to the ring management provided by RingSurf. Much of the useful functionality provided by RingSurf was lost, including the ability to navigate between different sites in the ring. Furthermore, RingSurf pages now seem to contain so much prominent advertising that it’s become a very difficult site to use.

In order to ensure our group continues to grow and thrive, we’re moving to an alternative ring management provider. I’ve chosen alt-webring.com, a free service without advertising that has all the functionality we’re looking for.

I intend to migrate member blogs to the new ring over the course of the next ten days. When your blog is migrated, you’ll receive an email confirming your details. Following the link in the email will allow you to update any of your details. The email will also contain your new ring HTML code, which should replace the existing ring HTML code on your blog. I’m hoping we’ll all be done and dusted by 11th October, when I’ll activate all member blogs that have been migrated and have updated the ring HTML code.

If you don’t wish to be migrated, please contact me now. If you’re migrated and no longer wish to be part of the ring, you can remove yourself from the ring by following the link in the email.

This migration coincides with a new look for the Leeds Blogs website at http://leedsblogs.co.uk. We’re going to make better use of our website and our twitter feed, and we’re launching a Facebook page too. If you’ve any suggestions on how we can do this, I’d be delighted to hear from you.

Regards,

Paul

To qualify for the the group, a blog needs to be written by someone over 14 years of age, living or working in Leeds, Bradford, West Yorkshire or the surrounding area (such as Harrogate or York, for example). We use this definition of a blog, which is extended to allow photo journals. We exclude blogs:

with sexual content,

with offensive (racist etc) content, or content likely to cause offence,

that offer, describe or solicit illegal products or services,

that are primarily commercial in nature.

These guidelines are in addition to the terms of service and privacy policy of the group operator, alt-webring. We use these guidelines to assess each application to join, but we reserves the right to grant or deny each application as we deem appropriate.

Once in the group, blog owners commit to:

keep the information supplied to us about their blog accurate and up-to-date, including a valid working email address,

place the group HTML code on the page they specified to us within 48 hours of joining the group,

ensure that the group HTML code is always present on the page specified to us,

update their blog on a reasonably frequent basis.

We contact members who don’t keep these commitments. We reluctantly remove blogs from the group where we’re unable to get owners to comply with them.

We reserve the right to, at any time:

refuse applications to join the group,

remove blogs from the group,

edit the information supplied to us about a blog by the blog owner,

contact blog owners by email, although this will typically only occur where contact is required to maintain the group,

temporarily or permanently suspend the group,

move the group to a different group operator,

change these guidelines.

We promise not use any information supplied to us for any purpose other than maintaining the group.

Now you’ve read the guidelines, apply to join the group. By doing so, you’re accepting the guidelines and agree to keep the commitments as described above.
