Membership guidelines

Last updated Sunday, 27 February 2005.

The guidelines, and their implementation, exist to ensure that the ring works for everyone. In the event of any query about these guidelines, please contact the Ringmaster. These guidelines are in addition to the privacy statement and terms of service of the ring operator. The Ringmaster will use these guidelines to assess each membership application, but reserves the right to grant or deny membership as deemed appropriate.

Ring membership is open to those over 14 years of age who have a suitable blog and live or work in the qualifying area, or whose blog is primarily about the qualifying area. Blogs no longer need to be written in English to qualify for membership.

For the purposes of this ring, this definition of 'blog' will apply. This definition is extended to allow photo journals. The definition of 'suitable' in this context is any blog except those:

  • with sexual content,
  • with offensive (racist etc) content, or content likely to cause offence,
  • offering, describing or soliciting illegal products or services.

The definition of 'qualifying area' includes Leeds, Bradford, West Yorkshire and the surrounding area. Nearby places just outside of West Yorkshire, such as Harrogate and York, may also qualify.

All ring members commit to:

  • keep the member-supplied data accurate and up-to-date, including a valid working email address,
  • place the ring HTML code on the page specified in the member-supplied data within 48 hours of joining the ring,
  • ensure that the ring HTML code is always present on the page specified in the member-supplied data,
  • update their site content on a reasonably frequent basis.

In the event of a member failing to keep to these commitments, the Ringmaster will contact the member by email to request corrective action.

The Ringmaster reserves the right to, at any time:

  • refuse any ring membership application,
  • revoke the ring membership of any member site,
  • edit the member-supplied data of any member site,
  • contact members by email, although this will typically only occur where contact is required to maintain satisfactory operation of the ring,
  • temporarily suspend or permanently delete the ring,
  • move the ring to a different ring operator,
  • change these guidelines.

The Ringmaster will will not use any member-supplied data for any purpose other than maintaining the functionality and performing administration of the ring.

The ring is operated by RingSurf. Any changes in ring functionality made by RingSurf are outside the control of the Ringmaster.
